Earth Day at
The New York Climate Exchange

Join us on Governors Island on April 18 during Earth Week for a celebration of the 2026 NYCHA Resident Climate Action Grants winners!

Hop on the hybrid-electric ferry to celebrate 30+ winning ideas for climate action across the five boroughs. This special gathering will bring community members, climate leaders, and artists together to network, exchange knowledge, and cheer on community leaders. The event—part of the island’s annual Earth Day Celebration—will include family-friendly activities, a photo booth, light refreshments, and more.

Hosted by the Public Housing Community Fund and The New York Climate Exchange—and made possible by HSBC—the NYCHA Resident Climate Action Grants is a community-focused grant initiative supporting climate action and sustainability projects within the New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) developments. This program invests in climate action projects led by residents through grants and technical assistance.

Getting around Governors Island

Governors Island is pedestrian only, and accessible by foot and bike. The Exchange will be holding events at the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council Arts Center at Governors Island.

Getting to the island

Governors Island is only accessible by boat. Whether you take the Gov Island ferry (from Lower Manhattan) or NYC Ferry (from south Brooklyn) you’ll be on the island in less than 10 minutes!

What's BMB?
The Battery Maritime Building is located at 10 South Street, at the tip of Manhattan. This is the most common way to get to Governors Island.
We recommend arriving 10-15 minutes before your ferry departs!

Soissons Landing
This entrance to Governors Island is directly across the water from the BMB, and takes about eight minutes to reach. Enjoy the skyline views on your way back to Manhattan!
You will not need to show a ticket to exit the island.
