The New Resource Race: Critical Minerals & Circularity

As the world accelerates its energy transition, the race for critical minerals has expanded. Lithium, cobalt, nickel, and rare earth materials are vital to everything from electric vehicle (EV) batteries to wind turbines. But with geopolitical constraints, environmental costs, and growing demand, The Exchange and our partners are asking, “How can we ensure access to these finite materials in a responsible and resilient way?”

Empowering Climate Practitioners To Use AI

Since The Exchange was launched, our partners have asked us the question: how can we apply AI to advance climate solutions? The excitement is understandable – AI is rapidly transforming ways of working across industries. Because climate change is a complex problem that affects many different sectors and systems, AI is well-suited to help, both with in-depth analyses and to advance solutions that address a range of impacts on society.

Bridging the Climate Innovation Gap through the Climate Tech Fellowship

Did you know that nearly half the climate solutions needed to reach net-zero by 2050 are still under development or need to be built? At The Exchange, we believe that innovations emerging from university labs and classrooms represent a critical pipeline of climate solutions, and we are determined to put these innovations on a path to market.

Deep technologies – many born out of university-based R&D – will play a pivotal role in decarbonizing the economy. From replacing fossil fuel-based products and materials with bio-based alternatives to harnessing the energy of our oceans for power, and electrifying transportation and the built environment, these breakthroughs have immense potential. Yet, many of them are held up in research, lacking a pathway for implementation and real-world application.

Climate Solutions Summit NYC: Data. Decisions. Action.

In the heart of New York Harbor, with the New York City skyline as a backdrop, The New York Climate Exchange hosted its inaugural Climate Solutions Summit NYC on Governors Island. The Earth Week event (April 23–24, 2025), brought together scientists, community leaders, policymakers, artists, and innovators to address one of the most pressing challenges of our time: building climate resilience in coastal urban environments.

In partnership with the New York City Panel on Climate Change (NPCC) and the Urban Climate Change Research Network (UCCRN), the summit was grounded in data, environmental justice, and the power of partnerships.
